We understand the need for healthy indoor environments. Safe air and water are important for hospitals, schools, universities, office buildings, and all commercial businesses. That’s why the accredited laboratory services at WTI | Pure Air strives to lead the country in environmental studies. In July 2021 the lab was acquired by Tremco, a division of RPM International. We continue to operate at 4911 Creekside Drive in Clearwater, Florida where we analyze samples submitted from both private and public industries.
Environmental Studies Overview
Founded as the Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory (EDLab) in 1994, our accredited laboratory services have enjoyed a stellar reputation as a leader in the field of environmental microbiology. Throughout its decades-long history, the lab has analyzed approximately 750,000 samples. In addition to microbiology, the laboratory also specializes in environmental studies including indoor air quality (IAQ), aerobiology, and allergen testing. We also conduct product efficacy testing to assist our clients with microbial and environmental management.
Aerobiology and Allergens
Using cutting-edge technology, our lab technicians analyze both non-viable and viable environmental microbes as well as biological and a-biological substances. We use microscopy, culture, and biochemical techniques to study airborne materials including:
- Pollen grains
- Insect bio-detritus
- Plant trichrome/fibers
An important focus of the lab’s environmental studies includes allergens. More specifically, the dust-related allergens that cause problems for many workers in office buildings. Allergens such as dust mites, pet dander, cockroaches, and rodents act as triggers for allergies and asthma symptoms and create unhealthy indoor environments. Allergens in the home also concern many Americans. To identify these allergens, our lab analyzes samples sent to us by customers who use our IAQ test kits.
Bacteriology and Biochemistry
The lab’s diagnostics services identify and quantify microorganisms that cause infection and disease. The lab also evaluates biochemical agents such as mycotoxins and endotoxins. This includes the Legionella bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease. We also help businesses create Certified Healthy Buildings to reduce risk and liability and our IAQ Guard 2.0 remote monitoring service ensures IAQ remains at safe levels.
Microscopy and Mycology
Microscopic particulates pose a threat to the indoor environment. The environmental studies conducted by our lab examine the particles taken from buildings and identify airborne fungi. Testing is also performed to determine the levels of pollutants such as asbestos, chemicals, temperature, humidity, and moisture. The results of our work help business owners and facilities managers begin remediation efforts to keep building occupants safe.
Expanding the Capabilities of Environmental Studies
In response to industry changes, as well as customer demands, the laboratory is expanding its capabilities through the use of an electron microscope. This will allow our technicians to test a wider range of samples. This includes samples originating from biological, microbiological, medical sciences, and material sciences. This expansion of environmental studies allows us the capabilities to better serve companies in the pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and other chemical-based industries.
Qualifications for Environmental Studies
Our complete and comprehensive analytical services ensure customer satisfaction with our environmental studies. We use a state-of-the-art facility and equipment. Lab accreditation includes ISO/IEC 17025:2017 compliance, quality assurance, and quality control (both internal and external). We do this thanks to our highly trained staff that is committed to quality, timeliness, and legally defensible data. Our accreditations and certificates include A2LA (Cert.# 5594-01), CDC ELITE, NYS DOH ELAP (Lab ID 12086), and PAT programs (PAT ID 102795). We also collaborate with our clients to produce sound data that is technically defensible and crucial in environmental diagnostics. The laboratory’s goal is to provide services in a manner that ‘Exceeds Customer Expectations”. Maintaining an open line of communication with our customers is the key to serving them.
